Mildred Chesser

Mildred Shaddix Chesser, 92, passed away in Gallatin, TN on Tuesday, August 31st.

Mildred was born in Elba, AL on June 5, 1929, one of three children, to Zeb and Odie (Daugherty) Shaddix. At 17, she met and married her husband of 66 years, Greil Chesser, after being introduced to him by her best friend, Yvonne Chesser, Greil’s sister. Mildred devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. With her husband, she was a faithful member of West Highland Baptist Church, singing in the choir, active in the WMU, working in the nursery and Vacation Bible School. She loved gardening, cooking and visiting the beaches. In later years she and Greil enjoyed RV camping, square dancing and playing games with their many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Lavon Shaddix and a child that died shortly after birth.

She is survived by three children, Tonnie Chesser (Bill) Cooper of Panama City, FL, Kathy Chesser Gantt of Andalusia, and Dr. Bruce Greil (Joy) Chesser of Hendersonville TN; four grandchildren, Meredith Cooper (Buddy) Yoder of Boiling Springs, SC, Trish Cooper (Andy) Hogan of Athens, GA, Justin (Meredith) Chesser of Montgomery and Travis Chesser of Nashville, TN; as well as eight great- grandchildren, her sister in law, Louise Dewberry Shaddix, and a nephew, Andy Shaddix.

Graveside service will be held for the family in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America [3288 8th Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NT 10001] or West Highland Baptist Church.
