Wm. Raymond Armistead, age 85 of Adairville, KY and formerly of Gallatin, TN passed away January 10, 2017 surrounded by his family. The only child of the late Hershel and Mamie Armistead, Raymond was born on February 6, 1931 on the family farm in Sumner County. Raymond attended school in Sumner County and graduated from Gallatin High School in 1949 where he was named "Outstanding Senior." After high school he continued work on his family farm until 1972 when he fulfilled his dream of having a grain farm in Southern Kentucky where he and his late wife, Winnifred raised their 3 sons. The farm is still in operation today under the supervision of his son, Joel. Farming was Raymond's life and he always embraced new technology in his profession and applied it wherever he could; Raymond lived on his farm up until his last days on this earth. Raymond loved baseball and enjoyed playing in country leagues around Gallatin; he enjoyed tractor pulling where his family competed for many years. He was a member of Benevolent Lodge #177 in Franklin, KY where he was a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner; he was also a longtime member of Adairville Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Winnifred Armistead. He is survived by his sons, Joel Armistead (Tracey), Kevin Armistead (Renea) and Eric Armistead (Rhonda); special friend, Margaret Wiseman; grandchildren, Ben Armistead (Candy), Justin Armistead (Maritza), Phillip Armistead, Jordan Armistead (Hannah), Zach Armistead (Rachael), Morgan Bella (Jesse), Jared Armistead (Kelsey) and Hunter Armistead; great-grandchildren, Addie, Tucker, Micky, Andrew, Scout and Atlas. Life Celebration Services for Raymond will be held on Friday, January 13th at 6:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Crestview Funeral Home in Gallatin and on Saturday, January 14th at 2:00 P.M. from the Adairville Baptist Church with Bro. Carl Frudenthal officiating both services. Visitation with the family will be on Friday from 3-6 P.M. at Crestview Funeral Home and on Saturday from 10 A.M.-2 P.M. at Adairville Baptist Church. Interment will follow the service Saturday in Greenwood Cemetery in Adairville.
