Rebecca “Becky” Burns, age 83, Madison, Alabama, left this world to live in eternity with God. Born January 18, 1943, Becky touched the lives of all those she encountered. To know her was a blessing.
Raised in Odon, Indiana, Becky graduated from Vincennes University in 1963 on a music scholarship where she participated in the Miss Vincennes Pageant. She touched the lives of others by playing piano and singing. Becky married and raised a family in Carmel, Indiana, where she was the school secretary at Mohawk Trails Elementary, then again for Carmel Clay Schools.
Becky was an amazing artist with watercolor, chalk, and colored pencils. She would frequently paint pictures for friends and family, and to receive a painting from her was a gift of love. To this day, paintings adorn the walls of several homes. Becky even illustrated a book, entitled The ABC’s of Indiana.
Becky lived her life to the fullest. She traveled to Europe with Sounds of Hope, where she sang in numerous cathedrals. She always made time for her children, making sure they had what they needed and living a life as an example to follow. In 2004, Becky married Ralph Burns, where they moved to Arizona and explored the Southwest, buying Indian pottery, rugs, and relics to decorate her home. She was always opening her doors to friends, neighbors, and loved ones.
Later in life, Becky and Ralph moved to Tennessee to be closer to her kids and grandkids, where she would frequently have them over for dinners and family time. She loved her grandkids to the fullest and was always excited to hear about their accomplishments and attend events the grandkids were part of. While in Tennessee, Becky became active in Gallatin First United Methodist Church, where she blessed others by singing in the choir and made life-long friends in her Sunday School class. Everyone loved Becky’s cheerful disposition, as she was always kind and thoughtful to others.
Becky was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Burns, and her parents, Jane and Harry Bunch.
Becky is survived by her loving children, Lora Whittemore (Mark) and Kevin Lamb (Leigh); her cherished grandchildren; Matthew Whittemore, Brian Whittemore, Braydon Lamb, Addison Lamb; and her brother, Rex Bunch.
A celebration of Becky’s life will be conducted on Friday, November 6 at Crestview Funeral Home in Gallatin, TN. Visitation starts at 10:00 AM, with a service immediately following at 11:00 AM.
