Portland

In Honor of Ray Thompson

“Even to your old age and gray hairs, I am He. I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” Isaiah 46:4

Raymond Vanuel Thompson, age 93, gained his heavenly home May 7, 2024. He was born July 13, 1930 to Lloyd and Mary Thompson.

As a young man, Raymond served as a Sargent in the United States Army from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean War. Following his service, he worked at Genesco Shoe Factory, Armstrong Tire, and retired from Pirelli Tire.

Outside of work, Raymond enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing billiards with friends, and bus tour trips. He was a great man of faith who loved his Lord, and he was a hard worker. Raymond was well-loved, and never met a stranger; he will be dearly missed.

The Thompson family would like to extend a special thank you to Front Porch and the care he received during his short stay there.

Raymond Vanuel Thompson is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Joan Goodall Thompson; daughter, Connie Gregory (Mark); daughter, Cristal Russell; grandchildren, Adrian Johnson (Michael), Kyle Gregory (Laura), Jonathon Young (Shawna), Jeremy Russell (Elizabeth); great grandchildren, Cole Johnson, Cade Johnson, Charlotte Gregory, Sawyer Gregory, Olivia Gregory, Madison Young, Benjamin Young, Sam Young; brother, Clois Thompson (Arlene).
