Obituary

Peggy Ann (Synco) McCollum, age 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Bethpage, Tennessee, on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. Peggy was born on March 3, 1932, in Arkansas County, Arkansas. She was the daughter of the late Kenneth Synco and Marie (Haller) Synco.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, and great-great grandma. Her sweet smile and generosity touched all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Berchie McCollum Sr.; brothers, Harold Synco, Bob Synco, Glen Synco Sr., Tommy Synco; and sister, Rose Marie (Synco) Lochala.

Peggy is survived by her loving children, Zettie (McCollum) Jones (Butch), Berchie McCollum Jr. (Gatha), David McCollum, Phillip McCollum (Elaine), Amy (McCollum) Conyer (Trevor), and John McCollum (Paula).

Peggy was blessed with 7 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Betty (Synco) Hill, Sue (Synco) Stanley, Jane Roswell; brothers, Kenneth Lloyd Synco and Johnny Synco. She is further survived by her best friend, Jean Brazzell and the entire Brazzell family, who she lovingly considered as family, as well as special friends, Linda Turner and Ray Ball.

Peggy was a devoted Christian, who openly shared her love for God with family and friends. She looked forward to meeting her Lord and Savior in Heaven and walking the streets of gold with her loved ones. Peggy exemplified the virtuous woman described in

Proverbs 31:10-31. She was also a wonderful cook, and she was well known for her coleslaw, pecan pies, and many other treasured recipes.

Peggy grew up in the Goldman Sunshine Community. When she married Berchie McCollum Sr., they made their home in Stuttgart, Arkansas, where they raised their 6 children on the family’s rice farm.

As a farmer’s wife, Peggy filled many roles; a cook, nurse, housekeeper, business woman, and laundering clothes from sunrise until dark.

Peggy was known for making milkshakes and delivering them to the fields as a refreshing treat for her family on hot summer days. Later in life, after her children were grown, she worked at Wilkerson Jewelers until her retirement.

In 2014, Peggy and Berchie Sr. moved to Tennessee, to be near their children and made a home with their son, Berchie Jr. and his wife Gatha. She cherished making new friends, expanding her family circle, and spending time with loved ones. Peggy also enjoyed daily walks along the creek with her beloved dog, Rosie, and visiting the horse and donkey next door.

In her later days, she found joy sitting in her patio swing, watching deer, hummingbirds, turkeys, and other wildlife that visited her yard.

Peggy was affectionately known as Mom and Grandmaw Peggy, will be missed deeply by her family and friends.
