Octavia Burchfield

Octavia Jane Stratton Burchfield, age 88 of Gallatin, TN and formerly of Maryville, passed away December 24, 2018. Mrs. Burchfield was born on April 9, 1930 in Townsend, TN to the late Claude Cleveland Stratton and Minnie Anne Cameron Stratton. Jane was born and raised in Townsend. She graduated from Townsend High School and later Kentucky Wesleyan University where she obtained her graduate and undergraduate degrees. A longtime educator, Jane taught in Hancock County, KY for many years; she enjoyed teaching and loved her students; she was constantly encouraging and had a very positive attitude. Jane enjoyed cooking for her family. She was a lover of many things, a few to mention are the Atlanta Braves, University of Kentucky Basketball, the Smoky Mountains, and most importantly her grandchildren. She was honored as a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a longtime member of Spring View Baptist Church in Maryville, TN. Jane was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; she will be truly missed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Theron Hubert Burchfield, who passed away on March 3, 2018; sisters, Helen, Margaret and Minnie, and brothers, Claude, Joe, Bud, and Harry. She is survived by her sons, Daniel Burchfield, Jeffrey Burchfield, (Tammy) and Paul Burchfield (Laura); 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and her sister, Betty White. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, December 29th at 1:00 PM (eastern time) in Grandview Cemetery, Maryville, TN.
