Larry Charles Slagle

September 28, 1944 — December 8, 2025

Larry Charles Slagle, born September 28, 1944, was a man of few words with a heart big enough for everyone. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need and was a beloved Dad, Pepaw, and Peeps, known for his kindness, humor, and quick wit.

You could almost always find Larry in his Liberty overalls and ballcap, listening to Elvis, watching NCIS, napping in his chair with a pup nearby, hunting for the best grocery deals around the county, attending his union meetings, tending to his garden, cooking from the "Slagle Country Kitchen" or making his world famous sweet tea.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Larry moved to South Tunnel, Tennessee at 14 where his love for farming and gardening took root. Growing up, he became known for his clever sense of fun and his ability to turn a "No" into a "Yes", leaving behind stories that will be told for generations.

Larry dedicated 63 years to the National Labor Union, where he built lifelong friendships. One of those friendships led to a blind date with a beautiful woman named Ruth (Pat), who became his wife, best friend, and the love of his life. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three amazing children.

Larry was a devoted sports fan of the Atlanta Braves and Vanderbilt Commodores, keeping his family updated with every score and ranking. And though he might not have admitted it, he had a soft spot for Hallmark movies at Christmastime.

Whether you needed advice, a recipe, or simply someone to listen, Pepaw was always the one to call. He was steady, slow to judge, and always dependable.

Larry is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Ruth (Pat) Slagle; his daughter, Carol Beth Slagle; his parents, Charles and Grace Slagle; and many loved ones who went on before him.

He is survived by his sons, Gary Slagle (Sharon) and Steve Slagle (Tina); grandchildren, Allanah Slagle, William Slagle, Abbi Slagle, and Logan (Amber) Slagle; and great-grandchildren, Jada Slagle, Emorie Venable, Hudson Slagle, and Ellie Slagle.

“There will be peace in the valley for me…” — Elvis Presley

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7

We love you forever, Pepaw.
