Janie Elizabeth Maddle, born Janie Elizabeth Denney, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026, in Gallatin, Tennessee. Born December 11, 1945, in Madison, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Elbert Denney and Clara Opal Goolsby Denney. She lived a life marked by hard work, faith, and deep love for her family.
In her younger years, Janie worked in her family’s restaurant, an experience that reflected both her strong work ethic and her connection to those closest to her. Over the years, she held a variety of roles, including truck driver, hair dresser, and corrections officer. Her life’s work showed her determination, versatility, and willingness to take on many different paths.
Janie enjoyed listening to live music, a simple pleasure that brought joy to her life. She was also a woman of strong Christian faith, which remained an important part of who she was. Above all, she loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother, and that role brought her special happiness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Janice V. Durham; brother Wendell Lee Denney; sisters Shirley Ann Denney Damron and Maggie Maxine Denney; and former son-in-law Timothy J. Durham.
She is survived by her daughter, Janine (John) Welch; her son, Robert Bishop, Jr.; her brother, Wayne Denney; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews who also loved her. She will be remembered with love by her family and by all who knew her.
A celebration of her life is currently being planned. Date/time/location will be updated to this obituary once they've been determined.
Janie’s life was one of resilience, devotion, and love. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
