Imogene Elizabeth Grant- age 86 of Whites Creek, TN passed away peacefully on February 15, 2015 surrounded by her family. She joins her middle son Patrick Grant after many years apart. Imogene was passionate about introducing young children to the joys of learning. She moved to Anchorage, Alaska with her husband Virgil Franklin Grant in the 1950s and there began teaching in a private Montessori School while raising her own children and assisting her husband in building his new business. She continued teaching in the Metro Head Start program once she returned to Nashville, TN. She loved art, working as a model for artists in Nashville in the 1940s. She enjoyed children, animals, painting, knitting, crocheting, macramé and sketching. She shared her love of art by helping children express themselves in different medias and styles.
Imogene lived her life with fire and complexity. She will be remembered as loving and vivacious with a peppering of fierceness delivered to her by her deep Irish roots. She will be missed profoundly by friends and family. She was devoted to the path she chose as a Mother, steadfast, unwavering and committed to the very end. She taught her children to be compassionate, faithful, kind, strong and forgiving, some lessons given through her strengths and some learned from her weaknesses. Her children are what she left in the world to hold her memory and be her legacy; they are the product of the life she lived.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Flora Jane Shay; son, Patrick Shay Grant; brothers, Denis, Jimmy, Tommy and Alden Shay.
She is survived by children, Michael Grant (Carol), Brian Grant, Tamara Grant Dunn (Randal), Cassandra L. Harrison (Leif Peterson); grandchildren, Michael Grant, Sean Ritzenthaler, Cassandra Grant, Michael Grant, Jr., Jessica Grant, Camai Bass, & William Norris; 14 great-grandchildren, brothers, Neal Shay (Carolyn), Bobby Shay (Roberta), Terry Shay (Beretha); many extended family members and friends.
