Capt. Gary V. Lyons, U.S. Navy, Retired, age 79 passed away on February 17, 2019. Gary was born on April 12, 1939 in Doaktown, New Brunswick, Canada to the late Paul H. Lyons and the late Vivian L. Amos Lyons. Born and raised in Canada, Gary immigrated to the United States in 1963 with his wife and family to further his education. He received his undergraduate degree from Olivet Nazarene University and his graduate degrees from Michigan State University and Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary. After college he was ordained as a United Methodist Minister. He became a United States Citizen in 1975 and joined the United States Navy in 1976. Gary served in the Navy's Chaplain Corps and retired in 1996 at the rank of Captain with 20 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his great-grandchild, Andrew McReynolds and son-in-law, Jesse Keith McReynolds. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Claire Lyons; children, Deborah Carman (Harold), Denise Blumenthal (Bill) and Darin Lyons (Andrea); grandchildren, Ben Blumenthal (Taylor), Blake Blumenthal (Kim), Tyler Blumenthal, Amanda McReynolds (Chris), Garrett McReynolds (Juana), Danielle Alexander (Garrett), and Anna Lyons; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Blumenthal, Kennadie Blumenthal, Braxton Blumenthal, Bryce Catherine Blumenthal, and Amaris McReynolds; and his brother, Kirk Lyons. Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 20th at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Crestview Funeral Home. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in the Sumner Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with his grandsons serving as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday from 4-8 P.M. and Wednesday from 12:00 P.M. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gideon's International.
