Ernest Allen "Ernie" Gregory, age 70 of Gallatin, passed away January 8, 2018 at his home following an almost 2 year battle with cancer. Ernie was born on February 23, 1947 to the late Roy Leon Gregory, Sr. and Ethel Harper Gregory. He was born and raised in Nashville, graduating from East High School where he was active playing football and trumpet in the band. After high school he began working with the Tennessee State Government, later realizing he wanted to work in law enforcement he applied with the Goodlettsville Police Department where he worked for over 30 years, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant. He was a member of First Baptist Church Hendersonville for the last 10 years and was faithful in his attendance until his illness. He enjoyed being a part of the backpack ministry with his Sunday School class; he also loved and enjoyed the fellowship with other members of the church at their weekly golf outings every Wednesday. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Leon Gregory, Jr. (R.L.). He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gwendolyn Cochran Gregory; son, Kevin Gregory (Andrea); two granddaughters who were the light of his life, Alexandria Catherine "Alex" Gregory and Chloe Ann Gregory; brother, Charles Roy "Chuck" Gregory (Melissa), numerous nieces and nephews. A Life Celebration Service honoring Ernie will be held on Thursday, January 11th at 12:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Crestview Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Raley officiating. Interment will follow in Crestview Memory Gardens with retired and active officers from the Goodlettsville Police Department serving as active and honorary pallbearers. . The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 10th from 4-8 P.M. and on Thursday from 10 A.M. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church Hendersonville, 106 Commons Blvd., Hendersonville, TN 37075.
