Elvin Bunk Thomas

Elvin Bunk Thomas, age 92, of Bethpage, Tennessee, entered into rest on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

He was born on September 24, 1931, to his parents Jerm and Lucy Thomas, in Smith County, Tennessee.

Growing up, he was one of eight children. As a young man, Elvin began working for the Carl Tipton Show, on News Channel 5, performing Bluegrass and Gospel Music. He was a singer and guitar player for 3 years before serving in the United States Army, in the Korean War. After the military, he returned to the Carl Tipton Show to continue his music career of 25 years. In that time he was married to Patricia A. Thomas, and they sang together. Asides from music, Elvin also laid brick as a mason, and he was known to be a working man.

Outside of work, Elvin was a family oriented husband, father, and grandfather. In his personal time he enjoyed fishing; hunting deer and squirrels; and watching football, especially the Tennessee Titans or Dallas Cowboys.

Elvin Bunk Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Patricia Ann Thomas; only daughter, Melissa Newman (Bobby); granddaughters, Megan Rearick (Robert), Evelyn Newman (Jeremy); great granddaughters, Mollie Rearick, Kalena Warner; and great grandsons, Conner Warner and Lawrence Rearick.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerm Bernet Thomas; mother, Lucy (Givens) Thomas; sisters, Wilma Deen Dixon, Windalyn Craighead, Shelby Angel, Laura St. Laurent; and his brothers Melvin Thomas, David Thomas, and Fred Thomas.

A graveside service with military honors will take place on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 12:00 P.M., at Sumner Memorial Gardens, located 420 Albert Gallatin R.D., Gallatin, TN, 37066.
