Obituary

Elaine Crockett Smith, a beloved member of the Gallatin and greater Tennessee community, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 8, 2026, in Portland, Tennessee. Born on March 9, 1943, in Nashville, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late John Watson Crockett, Jr., and Doris Gwendolyn Hudson Crockett.  Elaine lived a life marked by dedication, laughter, and love for her family and community.

Elaine’s professional journey was both inspiring and impactful. She devoted 21 years to working as an accountant for the Hendersonville Kmart, demonstrating unwavering commitment and expertise in her field. Later, she continued her career at Deloitte, where she worked until retirement. However, her passion for nurturing and care did not retire with her corporate career. Elaine found joy working with toddlers at the Mother’s Day Out Program in Hendersonville, a role she cherished deeply. Her love for children was evident to all who knew her, especially through fond memories of her blue van, which became a school bus for her own children and neighborhood children, embodying her generous and caring spirit.

Known affectionately as Elaine, she was a woman full of life—always ready with a laugh and a joke, never meeting a stranger, and deeply rooted in her family values. Bold and adventurous, she delighted in amusement park rides and ziplining, sharing these joyful experiences with her family, especially during visits to Disney, which held a special place in their hearts.

Elaine’s faith was the foundation of her strength and grace throughout her life. A devout Christian, she was a member of Jesus Reigns Church for over 30 years, living her faith with humility and devotion.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Macon Smith.

She is lovingly remembered and survived by her sons, Todd (Jennifer) Smith and Chris (Johnna) Smith; her brother, Bob (Joanna) Crockett; her husband, Charlie Abshire; grandchildren Josh Smith, Andrew Smith, Megan Smith, Zac Stewart, Emma Denniston, and Grace Hall; and great-grandchildren Kahli, Colton, Seth, Ragnar, Alice, Sophia, and Brantley. Their lives were enriched by her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support.

Friends, family, and those touched by Elaine’s kindness are invited to honor her memory with a visitation held at Crestview Memory Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation, located at 1623 Hwy 109 N, Gallatin, Tennessee 37066. The visitation will take place on Monday, May 18, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and continue on Tuesday, May 19, from 11:00 AM until the funeral service at 12:00 PM. A graveside service will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at 3:00 PM.

Elaine’s legacy is one of joy, compassion, and unwavering faith. She touched countless lives with her vibrant spirit and generous heart, leaving a lasting imprint on all who were fortunate to know her. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and community.
