Obituary

Donald E. Durham, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home on March 6, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on February 7, 1936, in Cottontown, Tennessee, Donald lived a life full of love, hard work, and cherished memories.

Donald dedicated over 20 years of his career as a plant supervisor at the Yale Towne Lock Company in Gallatin before transitioning into a fulfilling role in security for Vol State College another 20 years. He was known not only for his remarkable work ethic but for his easy-going personality that made him approachable to all. A proud veteran, Donald served 22 years in the Army National Guard, gaining valuable experience as a medic and military police officer. His patriotism was evident, and he carried this love for his country throughout his life.

A devoted member of the Southside Baptist Church of Gallatin, Donald found community and joy in sharing stories and conversing with others. He was a wonderful storyteller, connecting with people from all walks of life.

In his leisure time, Donald loved to attend Gallatin High School football games every Friday night, reading the newspaper daily while savoring a cup of coffee and indulging in powdered donuts. Together with his loving wife of 67 years, Helen (Huddleston) Durham, he enjoyed dining at Top Hog, where they became customer favorites. Fishing was another passion of Donald's, bringing him peace and moments of reflection.

The joys of his life were amplified by the company of his family, including his beloved daughter, Cindy Cline (Mike), and son, Eddie Durham (Anita). Donald took immense pride in being a grandfather to his grandchildren, Amanda Schultz (Teresa), Christopher Cline, Ian Durham (Ashley), and Allison Riddle (Kyle), and a great-grandfather to Collin Parnell, Isabel Parnell, Emily Durham, Ethan Durham, Riley Riddle, and Eloise Riddle. Each moment spent with them filled his heart with happiness, especially his cherished memories visiting parks, including Lock 4 and Bledsoe Park.

Donald is survived by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his dear sisters, Ruth Perry (Larry) and Martha Brookover (Richard). He is preceded in death by his father, Miles Durham; mother, Helen (Garrison) Durham; baby brother, Howard Durham; and aunt, Myrtle Durham.
