Delmer Clifton Breeding

March 12, 1944 — April 26, 2025

Delmer (Del) Clifton Breeding of Cumberland City, TN left this earth on April 26, 2025. Born on March 12, 1944 in Davenport, VA to the late Linza Breeding and Biddie Breeding. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Lou Breeding; son, Dwayne Breeding of Nashville, TN, daughter, Angel (Heath) Rodgers, granddaughter, Maddie Rodgers of Gallatin, TN. He is also survived by his siblings, Jesse Breeding, Linda Boyd, Billy (Lorene) Breeding, Jeanette (Jerry) Richards, Danny (Ginger) Breeding, Lonnie (Sandy) Breeding and Barb (Sam) Stiltner. Del was preceded in death by Brothers: Junior, Herman, Curtis and Dallas Breeding. Sisters: Loretta Boyd, Shelby Jean Owens, Sophia Johnson, Ora Boyd, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Del was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was a retired machine repairman for General Motors. He could fix anything and was generous to help anyone he could. His response was always “that wouldn’t be a big deal to take care of that”. He was also more than willing to share all the knowledge he had acquired throughout life. Sometimes, whether you wanted his advice or not. He loved spending time with his family, especially his only granddaughter Maddie. He was affectionately known as “Papaw” where Maddie was concerned. She loved spending time with her Papaw and you could often find them outside riding 4-wheelers or the side by side or practicing driving in the car he bought her. As long as they were spending time together, they were happy. He and Mary Lou built a beautiful, successful life for themselves and their families. Going to college and getting an education for Dwayne and Angel were of the utmost importance to him. And when they graduated and got jobs, buying their first house was equally important. And he helped them do that. He was proud of his family. Del loved having company and there was always a place to stay in their home when someone was passing through or wanted to visit. He and Mary Lou loved listening to Bluegrass music and Del especially loved old gospel music. Music was always playing in their house. A sixth-grade education did not hold him back. He received his GED and always strove to better his career, no matter the sacrifice. A memorial service will be held on May 10, 2025, at 12:00 Noon at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, 515 Long Hollow Pike, Goodlettsville, TN. Visitation will be from 10:30 until time of service. Internment will follow at Crestview Memory Gardens in Gallatin, TN with military honors at 3:00pm.
