Daniel Boone Sutherland III passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Dan was born in Virginia but lived his married life in Tennessee. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 57 years, Diana, three awesome sons, Danny (Tammie), Devon (Edie), and Darren, wonderful grandchildren, Garrett, Emily, Daniel, and Greta, a brother Ben (Angie), sister Bonnie Alice (Edgar), and brother-in-law Philip (Sally).
Dan was very active in the church. He was a deacon, an elder, a Sunday School teacher, chairman of various committees in church work, and was involved in several mission trips.
Dan liked being an outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, and camping, and traveled all over the USA and Canada. He was an amateur photographer and enjoyed documenting activities, travels, and his family. The family enjoyed RV camping and Dan served as the president of the Tennessee Winnebago Club.
He enjoyed being very involved in sports in his youth and with his boys. He was the Junior Pro Sports League Coordinator in Cookeville, and he coached both baseball and basketball teams for all three of his boys for several years. He loved watching and attending NASCAR races and participated in dirt track car racing--even won some! He served as president of the Cookeville Optimist Club. He volunteered with Boy Scout Troop 156 and earned his Wood Badge beads at Camp Boxwell.
He was a Mason, member of the American Legion, served in the U.S. Army in Security/Intelligence, and was an early retiree from GMAC.
Dan always had a story to tell about his family, childhood, home, his many adventures and experiences in life and everyone looked forward to listening to them.
Dan was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed. We all loved him so much!
Should you wish, memorials may be made to St. Jude or Shiners Hospital.
