Clifford Hunt, age 88, of Gallatin, Tennessee, (formerly of Hardy, KY) entered his eternal rest on March 17, 2019.  Clifford was born on December 8, 1930, in Pike County, KY to the (late) Warren and Ora (Thacker) Hunt.  At the age of five, Clifford’s mother died, so he spent much of his early life being reared by his beloved grandparents—Perry and Ollie Hunt.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Scott) Hunt.  They were married on March 30, 1953 (almost 66 years ago).  They were blessed with two sons, Clifford Steven (Darla) Hunt of Gallatin, TN and Leslie Mark (Agnes) Hunt of Mt. Juliet, TN.  Cliff and Mary were also blessed with five grandchildren—Joshua Hunt, Nathan Hunt, Natalie Hunt, Tasha Gregory, and Lisa Ibay, as well as four great-grandchildren.  Clifford had three siblings, Michael Hunt, of Tazewell, VA, and a sister and brother, Lillian Stepp and Ralph Hunt, who preceded him in death.

Clifford, a Korean War veteran, was employed in his early years as a coal miner in the rural Appalachian mountains, as a welder in Williamson, WV, and lastly on the railroad, in the Williamson yard and Grundy, VA locations.  Later he served in supervision and management as a general foreman for the Norfolk & Southern Railroad until his retirement in 1986.  Cliff was very thankful for his position and employment.  Railroading was not only his work but “his play” as well.

Most importantly, he was a believer in Jesus Christ and rejoiced in his salvation that he knew was imparted to him by God's Electing Love and Amazing Grace.  Clifford served as a deacon at Old Pond Primitive Baptist Church, Belfry, KY, for many years.  Upon moving to Tennessee, he became a member of the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Goodlettsville, TN.

The family will receive friends Friday evening, March 22, from 6-8 pm and Saturday, March 23,  from 12 - 1 p.m. at Crestview Funeral Home.  A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 23, at 1:00 p.m. in the Crestview Funeral Home, located at 1623 Highway, 109 North, Gallatin, TN, with Elders Lasserre Bradley, Jr. and Ronald Lawrence officiating.  Pallbearers will include Joshua Hunt, Nathan Hunt, Earl Scott, Jeff Scott, Mike Scott, and Mike Elswick.  Honorary pallbearers will include all of the deacons at Bethel Church.

Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Sumner Memorial Gardens, 420 Albert Gallatin Avenue, Gallatin TN, under the direction of Crestview Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, any memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Bible Hour-Cincinnati, OH, Old Pond Primitive Baptist Church, Belfry, KY, or Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Building Fund.

I’m so thankful I got to visit with Clifford last April. I will remember that visit for years to come. Though we don’t see each other often, we are family and that is so important. He was a great man and wil truly be missed.

    Dear Cherished Friends,
We are so sorry for this profound loss and we will be lifting you in prayer during this difficult time. It was a privilege to know Mr. Clifford, later lovingly referred to as “Papaw Hunt”, and enjoy his love of conversation. Surely you could fill volumes of books with sweet memories. We are especially thankful for his relationship with our Lord and for the comfort you all have knowing he is entering his heavenly home. In addition to his spiritual legacy, God gifted him with wood working talents. It was a joy to see his face glow as he showed us his pieces. Along with all his other life efforts, may the pieces he made with his own two hands always be a sweet, sweet remembrance of “Papaw Hunt”.

Dear Steve, Darla, Joshua and Mrs. Mary Hunt,
I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Hunt’s death. Our loved ones are precious.

Mrs. Mary Hunt —-having lost my husband, I know how difficult it is to lose your husband. I am deeply sorry. Wish that I could come to Tennessee to be with you, however, cannot at this time.

Steve and Darla — your moving to Gallatin to care for your Mom and Dad along with Leslie/family was a blessing for all. You two are the most special couple I have been so fortunate to know and enjoy.

I will keep all the Hunt family in my thoughts and prayers.
    God Bless You!

    Steve and Darla,
We remember so many sweet times with your Dad and Mom, at your home, their home, and many church meetings. He loved the Lord and God’s people, and so enjoyed fellowship with the saints of God.

His wonderful sense of humor and love of story telling made him so much fun to be around. His big, welcoming smile lit up his face!

Our love and prayers go out to all the family as your mourn losing him, even as you can rejoice at his absolute and pure joy in the presence our Lord and Savior. “ Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.”

    Our love,
    Gary and Vicki
